Literary Student Association Flanor - English

In March, Joost Oomen will visit Flanor! Many of you might know him from the television program De Slimste Mens [The Smartest Human] or from his first fictional novel Het Perenlied [The Pear Song], but Joost has been known for far longer in the northern part of The Netherlands. In 2011, he was the poet of the RUG and in 2013 he was the city poet of Groningen. He studied Dutch Language and Culture here and published two poetry collections and a novella before Het Perenlied. Het Perenlied is a wonderful novel with catching images that take the reader on a journey in the life of the Beet Queen, her dad, her sweetheart, and the love interest of the Beet Queen's dad. The novel is about 9/11, happiness, Disney, and colourful, juicy fruit. Besides being a writer, Joost is also drummer, Gronings inline skater and columnist for the Leeuwarder Courant and Dagblad van het Noorden.
