After a bit of a hiatus, the new Board is going to resume the blog posts. We’ll start by introducing ourselves – you may have already met some of us at events, but have we told you about all of our hobbies yet? Get your Board trivia here!

Juliët

Hello, as the new Chair, I should introduce myself.

I’m Juliët. I am a second-year Art History student at the RUG. Next to uni and Flanor, I’m also active at scouting. I like to read YA, fantasy, and children’s literature, and the occasional romance, thriller, or fanfic. I sort my books either by colour or genre, depending on the state of my bookcase: My poor old bookcase has given up and can no longer support my book collection. I have many diverse interests and I’m a jack-of-all-trades. This leaves a massive to-be-read. Not that my wonderful cats Luxi and Wally care. They will happily gnaw a few extra holes in my knitting needles.

Milou

Hi everyone! I’m Milou, the new Secretary of Flanor. I’m 21 years old and I’m currently in my third year of Chemistry at the RUG. In addition, I play (classical) piano and I follow concert pianist Wibi Soerjadi’s master classes every year. I also enjoy drawing, painting, cooking, and (of course) reading. I joined Flanor last August after a long search for an association that would suit me. Back then, I mainly read books about science and music (about composers, among others), but nowadays I also read some more Dutch and English literature and I’m particularly interested in Gothic novels such as Dracula and Frankenstein.

Martta

I’m your new Treasurer, Martta. I started university in Groningen in 2016, and one of my housemates at the time tried to get me interested in Flanor because they knew I like reading. Unfortunately the idea of a book club seemed intimidating to me at the time, so, to my great regret, I declined to look into it. Four years later, I started the MA European Linguistics. It was 2020, everyone I knew from my BA had moved away, everything was online, and I wanted a social life, so I decided to give Flanor a chance. Better late than never! I have really enjoyed my time so far in the Translation Committee and Audit Committee and the multitude of reading groups, and of course I’ll be even more active the coming year.

A bit more about me: I like to read science fiction, queer fiction, fantasy, and general fiction. Queer sci-fi is best of all, of course! I’m also venturing into poetry and romance. Besides reading, I like to think of myself as a decent cook and a casual gaymer, and a language turbonerd. If you ever feel like speaking French, Russian, Finnish, or German, don’t hesitate!

Cecile

Hello! My name is Cecile and I will be your Commissioner of Internal Affairs for this year. I am 19 years old and I’ve been a member of Flanor since august of 2021. Besides Flanor, I’m also a member of scouting. I like reading, making art things and roleplaying games (TTRPG and LARP). The books I like to read are fantasy, young adult and mythology. A fun fact about my bookcase is that there is a row of books behind the first one because otherwise it would not fit! I am currently in my first year of Art History at the RUG. In my free time I like to play games with friends, walk around or cuddle with my two cats, Kira and Nuri. I hope that this year will be fun!

Hannah

Hi, I’m Hannah, the new Commissioner of External Affairs. I’m 21 years old and have been living in Groningen for about three and a half years now. I’m currently in my last year of Industrial Product Design. This means lots of sketching and assembling things with cardboard and hot glue. I also like crocheting, theatre, and of course reading. I joined Flanor in September 2021 after joining the drinks, and now, less than a year later, I’m on the Board! I hope to learn a lot this year and of course enjoy myself at the same time. The genres I like to read in my spare time are fantasy, young adult, and romance. I prefer happy books, books that make me feel good when I’m reading.

We hope to get to know all of you too at all of Flanor's activities in the coming year!

Love,

Juliët, Milou, Martta, Cecile, Hannah
