Who is Ken Liu?
As most of you probably know, Ken Liu will come to Flanor to tell something about his work. Ken Liu is the author of The Dandelion Dynasty series, but there is a lot more to him than that. The board decided to do some online research and give you a summary of what we’ve found, so you already know a few things about him for the (international and English!) lecture tonight!
A quick Wikipedia search told us that Liu was born in China and moved to the U.S. when he was 11 years old. Even though, Liu writes primarily in English, he does translation works for books written in Chinese to English. Author’s he has translated are for instance Liu Cixin, Hao Jingfang, Chen Qiufan and Xia Jia.
Ken Liu has won a lot of prizes in his career, so far! He’s most famous for The Dandelion Dynasty series, but he’s also written a lot of short stories! He began publishing fiction in 2002, but it wasn’t until 2015 that he finally started publishing fantasy novels, starting with The Grace of Kings.
Liu states that the primary reason he writes stories, is to turn values upside down and inside out to create new narratives and thus show new perspectives.
